What are the effects of phenyl silicone oil compositions on fabrics?

Hits: 540 img

Phenyl silicone oil is a product in which part of the methyl groups in methyl silicone oil is replaced by phenyl groups. It is a colorless or light yellow transparent oil. Not only methyl silicone oil can be used on fabrics and has an impact on fabrics, but synthetic phenyl silicone oil also has an impact on fabrics. This article synthesized several phenyl silicone oils, tested the comprehensive properties of phenyl silicone oil and the silicone rubber system composed of it, studied the performance of different phenyl silicone oils used in fabric treatment, and analyzed the performance and changes of fabrics before and after treatment.

Using methyltrimethoxysilane as raw material, high-purity methylphenyldimethoxysilane was synthesized. Using this monomer and diphenyldimethoxysilane as raw materials, after complete co-hydrolysis, using hexamethyldisiloxane as the end-capping agent and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid as the catalyst, various phenyl groups were obtained through equilibrium condensation. Molar contents of methylphenyl silicone and diphenyl silicone.

The effect of changes in the phenyl molar content of two phenyl silicone oils on the properties of silicone oils, such as thermal stability, refractive index, and rheological properties, was studied. The results show that for diphenyl silicone oil, when the phenyl mole fraction is 40%, the refractive index is the highest, reaching 1.5435, and when the mole fraction is 30%, the thermal stability is the best.

Vinyl-terminated phenyl silicone oil was prepared using diphenyldimethoxysilane and dimethyldimethoxysilane as raw materials and 1,3-divinyltetramethyldisiloxane as the end-capping agent. Phenyl hydrogen-containing silicone oil was synthesized using diphenyldimethoxysilane, dimethyldimethoxysilane and methyldichlorosilane as raw materials and hexamethyldisiloxane as end-capping agent.

The two components of vinyl-terminated phenyl silicone oil and phenyl hydrogen-containing silicone oil are cross-linked and cured under the action of a catalyst to obtain silicone rubber. The prepared film has a light transmittance of up to 97.14% under 460nm ultraviolet light. The performance changes of phenyl silicone rubber systems with different phenyl silicone oil compositions were explored, and it was found that the refractive index of phenyl silicone rubber is positively related to the molecular weight of vinyl-terminated phenyl silicone oil.

Finally, several phenyl silicone oils were applied to fabric treatment, and the mechanical properties, whiteness, etc. of the fabrics before and after treatment, as well as the fastness of the fabrics treated with phenyl silicone oil, were comparatively tested. The study found that the tensile strength of fabrics after phenyl silicone oil treatment was generally enhanced, but the whiteness decreased slightly. When phenyl silicone oil is used to treat colored fabrics, the soaping fastness, wet rubbing fastness and sunlight fastness of the treated colored fabrics are all improved by one level.

Methyl silicone oil is used to soften and finish fabrics, increase the lubricity of fabrics, and increase the smoothness, fullness and elasticity of fabrics. After finishing with phenyl silicone oil, the tensile strength of the fabric is generally enhanced, but the whiteness is slightly reduced. When phenyl silicone oil is used to treat colored fabrics, the soaping fastness, wet rubbing fastness and sunlight fastness of the treated colored fabrics are all improved by one level.
