Viscosity of silicone oil

Hits: 659 img

The viscosity of silicone oil is an important indicator for selecting the specification and model of silicone oil, and its fluidity can be distinguished by the viscosity of silicone oil. The smaller the viscosity, the better the fluidity. The viscosity of silicone oil ranges from 0.65 centistokes to several million centistokes, and the silicone oil of millions of centistokes hardly flows at room temperature.

The unit of viscosity.

The viscosity unit of silicone oil is expressed in mm2/S, and the common unit is cst (centistokes), 1mm2/S≈1cst

Second, the detection method of viscosity

1. When the viscosity is less than or equal to 1000mm2/S, the measurement shall be carried out according to the provisions of Chapter 2 (capillary method) of GB/T 10247-2008, and the measurement temperature shall be 25°C.

2. When the viscosity is >1000mm2/S, it shall be measured according to the provisions of Chapter 4 (rotation method) of GB/T 10247-2008, and the measurement temperature shall be 25°C.

3. Effect of temperature on viscosity

Silicone oil has a small viscosity-temperature coefficient, that is, the temperature has little effect on the change of viscosity, but it still has an effect. As the temperature increases, the viscosity will also decrease. The viscosity indicated by each manufacturer refers to the viscosity measured at 25°C.

Fourth, the relationship between viscosity and molecular weight

The silicone oil obtained by the equilibrium reaction, although the low boilers have been removed, is not a product of a single degree of polymerization, but polysiloxanes of various degrees of polymerization. The greater the viscosity, the greater its molecular weight.
